World experience of German logistics for the development of transit potential of Kazakhstan

On February 19, 2015 the Union of Transport of Kazakhstan “KAZLOGISTICS” held a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of the Port of Duisburg Duisport AG Mr. Erich Shtaake. It was attended by representatives of “Kaztransservice”, JSC “Kedentransservice”, “Kazpost” and others.

The meeting was initiated by Mr. Erich Shtaake, in connection with the business interest of the Federal Republic of Germany to take part in the development of transit potential of Kazakhstan and improvement of existing freight from China via the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation to Western Europe

It is worth noting that Mr. Shtaake is a graduate in economics and trade organization. After graduation, he worked in senior positions in well-known international concerns, in particular, Bertelsmann AG, Gütersloh, is the chairman of the Supervisory Board of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG 2, the member of the advisory board of the Federal Association of logistics enterprises in Germany (BVL), a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML).

During the meeting, a joint discussion of strategic issues of further development of international cooperation between two parties

The General Director of the Union of Transport of Kazakhstan “KAZLOGISTICS” Almagambetov Kanat Esmuhanovich expressed an interest in the successful experience of operation of the port of Duisburg for further exchange of experience in the development of transit potential of Kazakhstan.

Mr. Erich Shtaake was presented activity of the port of Duisburg, which is currently the world’s largest container port river with a total turnover of 123 million tons (2012: 110 million tons). To date, the port of Duisburg is a multi-modal hub and an important link in the transportation system, not only in Europe but throughout the continent.

Among the key recommendations for the development of Kazakhstan’s transit hub in the region, Mr. Shtaake noted the need for strategic regional allocation when choosing the location of construction of transport and logistics centers (south- development of Almaty, the north — the development of Astana). He said that he sees a great future for the activity of FEZ “Khorgos”.

As a result of the meeting, the parties reached agreement on the organization of joint activities, contributing to the development of business relations between the business communities of Germany and Kazakhstan in the transport sector. Management of the port of Duisburg was officially invited to participate in three international transport and logistics business — forum “New Silk Road”, which will be held in May this year
